Our cosy shepherds hut and romantic gypsy caravan are an ideal place for a couple or a family (children age 4-10) to stay for a few nights whilst they explore the New Forest, nearby country parks and local beaches. As you sit outside by the chiminea or fire pit toasting marshmallows (supplied), looking out over a field where deer and rabbits can often be seen, it is hard to imagine you are only a short distance from the friendly market town of Ringwood.
Both the gypsy caravan and shepherds hut are lit by fairy lights and have a wood burner inside. There is also a beautiful octagonal thatched summer house, which overlooks the pond, with a mini fridge, tea / coffee making facilities, games and llama wool ponchos to borrow. Many guests use this decking area in the morning as well to enjoy their breakfast hamper (optional extra) with warm bread rolls, muffins, a selection of cereals, a fruit plate, juice and milk.
We also have a very colourful compost toilet (with fairy lights too!). Alternatively, guests might prefer to walk up towards the house to find a more traditional toilet or to take a shower.
Fernwood Glamping is a quiet location for couples or families with up to 2 children wanting to unwind and relax in our rural setting. For this reason, we ask that music is not played outside, guests are quiet by 10pm and pup tents are not allowed. Our hut and van are non- smoking areas please! It will be a memorable place to stay with your children but we do ask you to also think carefully about fellow guests as well as safety aspects (hot wood burner, unfenced pond and high deer hide) before booking. We regret, no dogs (we love them but have our own as well as lots of other animals! You are welcome to come and meet our chickens, rabbits and tortoise and may see Austin, our cat, in the garden.)
Having lived in Ringwood for over 25 years and brought up our three children here, we are more than happy to help with ideas of places to visit or ideas for walking or cycling. Whether you want to explore the forest or are looking for a more organised day out, there is certainly plenty to do around here. Popular with families is Peppa Pig World at Paulton's Park, the play trail at Moors Valley Country Park or a visit to one of our local beaches (such as Southbourne, Hengistbury Head / Mudeford Quay). For teens or the young at heart, we have The New Forest Water Park or Go Ape at Moors Valley. The list is endlesss with The New Forest Wildlife Park, The Raptor and Reptile Centre, Beaulieu Motor Museum. Some visitors wil also go to Marwell Zoo, Monkey World or Brownsea Island.
You will be spoilt for choice with places to eat, from restaurants and coffee shops in the town to country pubs and tea rooms in the New Forest villages. If you want to relax in Fernwood's garden, just at the bottom of the hill is a Tesco Local, Poulner Fish and Chips, an off licence and a bakery that does pizza takeaway on Friday and Saturday night.
What a great find! Rachel and Jonathan are incredible hosts for this idyllic glamping experience. We are a family of four- 2 girls under the age of 5 and we stayed in their Gypsy caravan for 2 nights. Rachel and Jonathan thought of all the small details to make our first glamping experience a great one! Such as marshmallows to toast on a fire come the evening, snuggly rugs, a gorgeous tea set for a morning cup of tea and fairy lights to light up the inside of the caravan after dark. We even saw deer from the forest grazing in the field behind. As novice campers we were a little nervous of the compost toilet but they kept it really well- no smell and a nice clean environment. They were ideally located right in the New Forest so we went for a wonderful walk and saw the wild horses and cattle roaming. We also went off to the beach for the day which was a short car journey away. We would truly recommend for a wonderful stay.
My partner and I took my daughter to stay at Rachel's Rustic Shephard's Hut this weekend. We felt really relaxed, comfortable and welcomed into Rachel's home and garden. We would recommend this accomodation and experience to anyone or a family that needs a break away from the stresses of working and fast paced life. We wish that we could have stayed longer. However, even though it was just a short break we felt so refreshed, relaxed and ready for work on Monday. The Hut was immaculately clean and just so unique and pretty. We had the best sleep because it was was so warm all night as we had had the fire on. The bed is so luxurious and you just do not want to get out. We enjoyed having the outside fire pit to ourselves and toasted marshmellows before we went to bed. We woke up to an amazing breakfast that was lovingly prepared by Rachel and the homemade muffins really went down a treat. My daughter enjoyed very much spending time with Rachel and being introduced to all of her animals that she owns. This made for an even extra special get away because my daughter is really looking forward to telling everyone at school about our adventures. We would love to come back and to also bring my nephew because I can clearly see that there is enough space for another little one and we would never get bored of coming here. Thank you to Rachel and your family for giving us such an amazing experience xx
